Tucked into the isolated recesses of Greenwood Island, about ten miles off the Oregon coast, there’s a building. A large, old, mansion-like structure, used for the education of the young generation. But not just anyone can enter the brick structure. The children within these walls are gifted, physically, mentally, and spiritually. They are raised and taught in a welcoming atmosphere, where they will not be judged or made fun of simply because they are different. They are the next generation of mutants. The students range in age from nearly infants to seniors in high school, and their gifts and abilities are as diverse as the students themselves. Hydrokinetics, shape-shifters, telepaths… This place has it all.
The name of this building? The Apollo Academy. A simple name for such a large, wondrous building.
“Welcome to the Apollo Academy.” A clear, strong voice echoed over the crowd of eager young students, who instantly went quiet and turned their attention to the speaker. She was tall, blonde, and very professional-looking. She stood on a large podium in front of the Academy, looking out over the sea of a few hundred students. It seemed that every year, more and more students arrived at the school, and with them, more and more different powers. She saw a few students that were brightly colored, some with fur, others with feathers, and even a few scales scattered around. Most, though, looked like normal kids, showing a mixture of both nervousness and excitement. On each side of the Headmistress stood a line of teachers, some grinning, some more solemn. Overall, there were probably around a dozen teachers standing in front of the crowd, but there were plenty more in the building itself, preparing for the students to come inside.
“My name, as many of you know, is Sophia Winter,” the woman continued, scanning over the crowd with her ice blue eyes. “But you may call me Headmistress Winter. I am here to welcome you all to a new year at the Academy. There are many of you I recognize.” She noticed a group standing right in front of the podium, all of whom were her students from the past, and she smiled at them warmly. “Others are new faces, and I am eager to learn about each and every one of you.” She paused, glancing again over the crowd. “I will not speak long, for I am sure that you are excited to explore your surroundings. But I will say this: If there is anything, anything at all, that you need, don’t hesitate to come to me, or one of my fellow staff members.” She waved her hand towards the area where the teachers were assembled. “So!” she clapped. “Without further ado, you may disperse and discover the wonders of your new home!” With a flourish, Sophia exited the stage, leaving the children to wander through the gates to the Apollo Academy.
(NOTE: I’m not going to make a page for the Headmistress, since I will only be using her when absolutely necessary. Just so you know, her ability is teleportation and very mild telekinesis.)

A man standing at the immediate right of Ms. Winter started clapping loudly as the students rushed towards the building, a huge, bright smile on his face. His hazel eyes watched in amusement as the kids chased each other around, racing to see who could get to the building the fastest. A bright red bandana was tied around his head, but it only partially contained the wild, chestnut locks flying wildly in the cool breeze. He wore a simple black tank top and khaki shorts, looking very unprofessional, but still cool.
“Looks like it will be a good year, eh?” Alberic called to the Headmistress over the noise, the goofy grin still plastered to his face. “I think I may even see a few runners in there!” Unable to control his excitement, the 23-year-young man leapt off the podium and into the throng of students. Many of them yelled a greeting to him as they made eye contact, and a few blushing girls even snuck in a hug. “Great to see you all, hope you had a good vacation! Good to be back, yeah? Hope you’re ready to start training again!” He called out random greetings to the students, not really caring if they could understand him over the din or not.
He saw a young boy stumbling along behind the main group of students, and he dashed over to help him. Murmuring a few hushed greetings, he quickly took the too-large backpack that the boy was holding and helped the boy get his belongings into the building. He then showed him where he would be staying, with another group of eager young boys, and was glad to see that his new little friend brightened up substantially. After he was settled in, Mr. Guthrie took over his place at the main doorway, where he helped students find the way to their rooms, got a few late-comers registered, and basically just did his best to look helpful. He glanced around occasionally, hoping to see one of his favorite students, either Zuberi, Rae, or one of the many young men that he had gotten in shape last year.

At the moment, Rae was being shoved left in right by students her own age and younger. She grumbled a few choice curses, then pushed out her black-and-tawny wings to get some room. The kids around her were shoved aside, and she was able to make it to the main doorway without too much more trouble. She nodded a greeting to Mr. Guthrie, who smiled back at her. She didn’t say anything, though; she was eager to get to her room, away from the noise and ruckus. She pulled out a piece of paper and glanced at the top, above her schedule. It said she would be staying in Room 213. Not too far away. She continued forward into the Lobby, eventually reaching a door that led outside, towards the girl’s dormitory. She walked swiftly to the large building, her glad to have gotten away from most of the crowd.
The 18 year old Aussie was wearing a deep emerald tank top and jeans shorts, since the weather was still very warm and mild. Her dark mahogany hair was tied back in a tight braid, and it swung back and forth like a pendulum against her back. Her eyes scanned the building that she had come to know so well, and a hesitant smile crossed her pale face. It was good to be back home.
She quickly found her room and deposited her belongings, which consisted of a large suitcase and a small knapsack. Luckily, she was old enough to have a room to herself, and though it was small, it was rather homey. Before going outside again, Rae took a few deep breaths to calm herself. She knew that the teachers would want her to help the many new students that were arriving at the Academy, and she had decided, unwillingly, to help out.
She opened the single, large window that was in the room, which gave a nice view of the see, and leapt out. Her room was located on the second floor, and the drop gave her just enough time to unfurl her wings and catch the air. She rose above the ground, flapping powerfully, and made her way back to the entrance of the academy. A few of the kids looked up and gawked at her flying form, but most didn’t notice as she landed beside the main pathway. She tucked away her wings and smiled, waving encouragingly to the new students.

“Excuse me, sorry, pardon me, trying to get through!” Zuberi was still stuck in the middle of the crowd, and it seemed to have come to a halt. Some student was probably causing a traffic jam, so the blue girl had decided to try to go the long way around. She was currently shoving her way towards the side of the crowd, trying not to cause to much disorder. She yelped as small girl stuck her tongue out at her- it was long and forked. Zuberi mustered a smile at her, and then, finally, pushed her way out of the large group of people. Luckily, her height seemed to have some to her advantage for once.
She, too, pulled out her schedule, checked her room, and deposited her belongings in room 210. She grinned at the familiar faces, taking a few minutes to chat about how her summer was with a few choice friends.
After she was through with greetings and small talk, Zuberi pulled out her pony-tail and shook out her thick black hair. She wanted to look cute as she met new people. She took a few minutes touching up her eyes; though they were already large and luminous, she felt the need to wear mascara and eye-liner, since it seemed every other 17-year-old girl was doing it. She also changed into her best khaki shorts and waist-hugging t-shirt; the outfit made her look less gawky around the other students. Nodding in appreciation at her reflection, she exited the dormitory and walked back to the academy. She noticed Rae, a good friend of hers, and greeted her enthusiastically. She didn’t feel in the mood to help the new people, though, and instead searched the crowd for attractive guys; she didn’t see Alberic, though, and a pout crossed her face. Well, at least she had two classes with him this year. That was sure to make things fun!

Keith Ciaran, who had been on the end of the podium when Ms. Winter was talking, was now crossing the courtyard, a forced smile on his face. He tried to keep his thoughts away from the torture that this year was sure to bring, but he couldn’t help but grimace at some of the students; there was one with green skin, another with a reptilian tail, and an entire group that had fur over their bodies…. Back when he was young, the mutations hadn’t been so obvious. It seemed like every year, the mutations only got worse.
A few of his old students caught his eye and nodded in respect, and he blinked at them in greeting. Though the weather was warm, Keith was wearing his normal black jeans and his black, button-up shirt, along with a pair of non-leather gloves. The gloves were there for the students’ protection; if, by any chance, Keith managed to lose his temper, he could end up harming one of the kids, and though he didn’t necessarily like them, it would be hard for him to explain it to the Headmistress.
His cold, calculating eyes scanned the crowd for any student who appeared dark or sinister in any way. His job, though no one else knew, was to find students that didn’t want to be at the school, and persuade them to join the so-called ‘evil’ gifteds. A few people looked promising, and he made a mental note to talk to some of them as soon as possible. He didn’t want one of the other teachers to snatch them up before he could convince them to join him.
Eventually, the crowd parted enough so that Keith was able to get to the main doorway, and he entered slowly. Alberic was already there, greeting and helping students, and Keith had to hold back a wave of disgust; if there was any teacher at the Academy that he hated most, it was the do-gooder Alberic. He turned his attention away from Mr. Guthrie and instead focused on not losing his temper.
